What I Wore Today

I've been having some fun this week with this new Flickr pool. There are over 1,300 members, so there are a lot of cool little drawings to check out there, if you have the time.
Last week I met Anna from Kaffeebaum in Nippes. She has the lovliest little shop where she roasts her own coffee beans. She gave me a bag of one of her espresso roasts called Amsterdam, and it's what I've been running on all week!

A friend of mine is having some very unfortunate times, and me & some other artsy friends of mine are selling some things to help her. Check it out if you like art, cool stuff, good karma, etc etc.

I have three prints up there, and have already bought a few things myself. It's coming down on Sunday the 27th, so go check it out!

some famous people I have met, drawn

I didn't meet all these poeple at once, but my friend Jody thought the image of me being stranded in an elevator with them in a sort of life-boat situation was funny. Left to right, if you can't tell, that's Gorbachev, Allen Ginsberg, and Kim Fields. That's supposed to be me in the front. I call it:
"A 1980's teen actress, a beat poet, the last General Secretary of the Communist Party of Soviet Russia and a middle-aged hillbilly artist get stuck in an elevator somewhere in Düsseldorf."

A few months ago I was so happy to be able to go to a reading given by Junot Diaz and the literature festival Lit Cologne. He read from his amazing Pulitzer Prize winning book The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao and stayed after to sign books. He was charming and sincere and took his time with everyone waiting in line to meet him. He complimented me on my English!

For Sale!

In the spirit of paying the rent on my studio, I've decided to start doing comissioned portraits. If you or someone you know is interested, leave a comment. We'll work out the details and I'll pop the finished product up at my etsy shop for your easy internet buying convenience. If I've already done a portrait of you and you want to buy it, same deal.
I love drawing faces & I'm pretty good, you know.

Pictured above: my friends Ray and Nicole, and my son Henry.
Below: Awesome mama and blogger, Heidi.
These are smallish* portraits on archival paper done with pencil, watercolor, conté, and ink.
The price range for something similar is between 35-45 dollars, american. I think it's a good deal. If you are an artist, I'm open to swaps.

* I don't have a ruler on me, but around 5"by10"? I hand-tear the paper and they are all slightly different.
